Today was our last day for our 21st Century Summer Program. It has been a fun summer and the students have stated they have learned a lot. Our first two weeks the students learned about extinct animals and we took them to the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History. Where they were able to see dinosaurs bones and other exhibits relating to extinct animals. The second two weeks the students learned about exotic animals and we took a field trip to the Oklahoma City Zoo. The students were able to feed the Lorikeet. The last two weeks our students have learned about animals under the sea and we had a fun filled day visiting the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks. At the aquarium our students got to feed the turtles and stingrays, they also got to pet some stingrays and sharks. We asked all the students which was their favorite field trip and they all said the Oklahoma Aquarium was their favorite. This week students have been learning about farm animals. Mrs. Townsing has brought two of her rabbits and her horse, Noodle so the students could pet them. In between learning about Animals from Around the World, our students in grades 3rd-8th have spent time at the pool taking a pool safety class with Mrs. Minton and they have also went fishing with Bobby Shatto. We would like to say, Thank you to the following people who made our summer program a success: Bobby Shatto for teaching our fishing class. OSU extension for provided lessons each week and providing crafts for our students to make their own fossils and providing the supplies for students to make butter. Pioneer Library for reading to our students. Our school nurse, Ms. Stephens for providing a health class for 3rd-8th grade. Thank you to all the parents who attended the field trips, and thank you to all of the teachers and high school assistants who worked hard to make our 21st Century Summer Program a success. We hope you have a wonderful summer break and we will see you when school starts back up in August.

Our 21st Century Summer Program students will be taking a field trip Friday, June 23, 2023, to the Oklahoma Aquarium located at 300 Aquarium Dr. Jenks, OK 74037. The buses will leave the school at 8:30 a.m. Since the Oklahoma Aquarium is roughly 2 hours away we will be arriving back at the school by 5:00 p.m. instead of the normal 3:00 p.m. time. The cafeteria will send a sack lunch for each student attending. All students who have met the requirements to attend the field trip must ride the bus to the Oklahoma Aquarium as we will need to pay for all the students at once. We invite our Summer School Program Parents to come join us on a fun-filled day. Parents who attend will need to pay their admission fee at the door. Students may ride home with their parents. However, we do ask that parents who will be taking their child(ren) home with them to please sign out their child with the grade-specific lead teacher, so all of the students can be accounted for.
